The Brief

The organisation wanted to ensure that, as it grew into new regions, all employees should recognise and follow a strict code of practice regarding ethical business. The legal and learning teams worked together to produce a mandatory digital training that all staff would have to complete on an annual basis.

What we did

We wanted to head off protests that people ‘knew what ethics were already’ and ‘didn’t have to take the learning again’. We did this with a formative quiz that outlined various scenarios and asked the learners what actions they would take.

If learners scored 100% in the quiz, they were considered to have passed the learning and would not have to retake it. If they scored less than 100%, they were assigned a one-hour series of digital resources on FUSE, comprising articles, quick guides, videos, SCORM e-learning, and then asked to re-take the test. Again, if they didn’t get 100%, they were directed to review the learning.

To avoid ‘gaming’ the system we created a large question bank of scenario-based questions that would refresh each time the learner took the quiz.

We backed this up with a firm-wide comms campaign to ensure full engagement. The course was successful in raising awareness of the firm’s practice principles.

Results

The first year of the programme reported a huge uptick in engagement and completion, and we were able to report that 100% of eligible staff had completed the learning by July 2020.
