This is my initial sketch for a MOOC on mobile learning for a corporate learning team. I tried to come up with something that was relevant to my context and that I could turn into something useful after the MA is over (not that I’m counting the hours or anything).
Background
Large international consultancy with lots of highly-qualified experts working in client locations on a huge variety of projects.
While these practitioners are experts in their chosen field, they require training on a number of core skills, including:
- Successful assignment management
- Leadership skills
- Time management
- Administration – time reporting, expenses etc
- Networking/negotiation/soft skills/sales skills
The organisation has historically run a number of face to face learning events in the UK. The international cohort has been small enough to allow them to travel to the UK for these events.
Recently the organisation has expanded its overseas interests and employees have expressed a preference for ‘local’ learning. There isn’t the budget to recruit and maintain a ‘local’ training service, so the organisation is looking to increase its digital learning offering so that it complements and blends with the live learning.
The Learning and Development team includes a number of subject matter experts (SMEs) who facilitate live training. The team manager would like the SMEs to learn more about mobile learning and begin designing learning experiences that incorporate elements of mobile learning.
This MOOC will provide:
- A grounding in pedagogical theory related to mobile learning
- An understanding of how context affects learning
- An understanding of how mobile learning can be used in a blended learning environment
- Ideas and tips for designing mobile learning resources
- Resources for further learning and inspiration
